Childcare Aylesbury

Providing exceptional childcare in Aylesbury

We are open full-time from 7:30am – 6:00pm caring for children from 0 to 5 years.

Taking care of our staff’s wellbeing is of prime importance to us and we are proud to have been voted the 14th best place to work in the whole of the UK.

Our location and opening hours

Child First Nursery and Preschool is ideally located just a 1-minute walk from Aylesbury Bus Station and the town centre—perfect for parents who work in Aylesbury or commute through the town daily. Aylesbury itself is a vibrant market town, rich in history, with beautiful parks, family-friendly attractions, and excellent local amenities, making it a wonderful place for children to grow and explore.

Our nursery and preschool are in separate buildings, giving children of different ages plenty of outdoor space to play, learn, and discover. The nursery building has a charming history as a former community church, while the preschool was once the town’s community bank, giving both locations a unique character that children love.

We provide high-quality childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years, delivered by a passionate and highly qualified team. Our nursery offers both full-time and part-time spaces, with flexible options to suit busy family lives. We are open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, with additional early drop-off from 7:30 am.

To ensure the best care and learning for your child, we close on all public bank holidays, between Christmas and New Year, and for three staff training days each year, which support our team’s continuous professional development.

At Child First, we create a warm, home-from-home environment where children learn through play, explore natural resources, and develop a love for the world around them—all with a strong focus on sustainability. We pride ourselves on nurturing curiosity, independence, and confidence in every child.

Above & beyond educational experiences

At Child First Aylesbury Nursery we work in partnership with parents to achieve the best possible outcomes for all the children in our care.

Our tailor-made curriculum has been designed with each unique child being the centre of everything we do.

The rooms have been uniquely designed to create stimulating and exciting learning opportunities, and are adapted to cater for all abilities.

We have done this by inspiring confidence and curiosity throughout the setting, and you will find we add a lot of “Loose Parts” elements in our environment.

Our nursery fees are all inclusive of all nappies and wipes, suncreams, formula, drinks and freshly prepared nutritious meals cooked by our onsite Chef.

What makes us special

Ofsted Registered

We adhere to our registration on the Ofsted Early Years Register. This monitors the overall quality standards of the early year’s provision in line with the principles and requirements of the EYFS.

Best place to work

Taking care of our staff’s wellbeing is of prime importance to us and we are proud to have been voted the 14th best place to work in the whole of the UK.

Settling in

Your first settling in sessions will give your child an opportunity to get to know your child’s Key Person.

Our food

Our menus are designed by the Pre-School chef and a paediatric dietician to meet the needs of each age group.

Core stories and songs

Reading and storytelling in the early years are so important for a child’s development. Research from the National Literacy Trust shows that the number of words children hear at a young age can have a lasting impact on their learning, even into secondary school.

At our nursery, we bring stories and songs to life every day. Each room has a set of core stories and songs that we enjoy together, helping children develop their communication skills, language, and understanding of characters, plots, and actions. These familiar books and songs create a comforting and consistent environment, and because children encounter them in different rooms, it also makes moving from one room to another a smooth and happy experience.

We believe that through stories and songs, children not only learn but also develop a love of reading that can last a lifetime.

Skill and knowledge-based planning

Our planning is based on the skills that the children need to develop to move on to the next stage in learning. We use information that each child’s key person records about their progress to determine which skill they need to learn next. We then break down the skills into the components of knowledge we need to teach for children to be successful. We then use this information to plan exciting and engaging activities that inspire awe and wonder in the children at the same time as developing the skills needed to achieve their milestones.

Welcoming & stimulating enviroment

Our environments and development programmes are tailored for children between the ages of 3 months to 3 years. The nursery provides a range of creative activities including, languages, early computer skills and emergent reading and writing to help the children develop, and prepare them for their next steps in education. Our programme meets the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum and the Buckinghamshire Local Authority funding requirements.

Our outdoors environments are utilised in a way to support exploration and independence, allowing the children to grow and develop holistically. Each room has access to their own individual garden, where children have access to equipment that promote physical development, life skills, and learning about the importance of their wellbeing.

A well prepared learning environment

We incorporate all seven areas of learning into the early year’s curriculum, ensuring the children have a well prepared, inviting, and stimulating environment. Staff provide a range of activities to cater for children’s individual interests and development needs, working towards the Early Years’ Outcomes – Early Learning Goals, across all areas of the curriculum.

At Child First Aylesbury, we operate a Key Person system. Your child will have an individual Key Person who will observe progress and development. The Key Person approach gives every child the reassurance to feel secure and cared for, helping them to become familiar with the Nursery environment and to feel confident and safe within it.

Extra-Curricular activities

Tapping Toes

For our younger children, parents can sign them up for our fun and lively “Tapping Toes” sessions. These sessions give children the opportunity to develop their English language skills while also beginning to explore Spanish through a variety of songs, music, and movement.

Forest school

Forest school takes palace with small groups of preschool children and allows the children to explore the world around them. During these sessions the children learn how to appreciate and look after the environment as well as immerse themselves in nature. Some activities that the children take part in include; scavenger hunts, making bird feeders, nature walks, bug hunts and much more.

Opportunities for outdoor learning

Our outdoor spaces are full of adventure, exploration, and hands-on learning! We have a large, spacious preschool garden and two smaller, cosy gardens at the nursery, providing endless opportunities for children to discover, explore, and develop new skills every day.

Each day, our outdoor areas are filled with exciting and engaging activities designed to inspire curiosity and creativity. We are lucky to have a dedicated Forest School teacher, who leads sessions in the nursery gardens, helping children learn about the natural world, stay safe, and take part in meaningful, hands-on experiences.

We are also growing our nursery vegetable garden, where children learn about planting, nurturing, and harvesting their own food. The produce they grow is then used by our chef to create healthy, delicious, and well-balanced meals, giving children a real sense of pride and connection to the food they eat.

Through our gardens and outdoor learning, children develop confidence, independence, and a love of nature that stays with them for life.

Role of a SENCo and your special needs provision

At Child First Aylesbury, we believe every child is unique, and learning should be too. We understand that children develop at different rates, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child—regardless of background or additional needs—can thrive.

Our nursery has a dedicated SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) who works closely with children, families, and staff to develop tailored support plans for those who need extra help. The SENCo also collaborates with external agencies and government support networks to ensure every child has access to the resources and outcomes they deserve.

Early identification of a child’s needs is a priority, particularly in the crucial year before transitioning to school, so that children receive the right support at the right time. Many of our staff have furthered their professional development by completing—or currently undertaking—SENCo Level 3 training, ensuring our team is skilled, knowledgeable, and confident in supporting all children.

At Child First, we celebrate each child’s individuality and are proud to provide a nurturing, supportive environment where every child can flourish.

How you support children with EAL

We have many language and cultural backgrounds represented in our setting. We actively encourage parents to use their home languages with their children as much as possible, as at this age, speaking more than one language comes naturally. We celebrate multilingual children and use resources, books and songs to promote this. During home visits, the child’s key person may ask parents to share key words and phrases the staff can use with their children to support their transition into nursery. We also use lots of visual images when working in rooms with the children and this supports their understanding and development if English is not their first language.
